FAQ
Ceramics FAQ
1. How do I clean delicate or antique ceramics?
Use a soft sponge and mild dish soap with warm water. Avoid abrasive cleaners or scrubbing pads. Rinse gently and air dry or pat dry with a soft towel.
2. Can I put ceramic dishes in the dishwasher?
Yes, but only if they're labeled dishwasher-safe. Antique or hand-painted ceramics should be washed by hand to prevent damage.
3. Why can't I return my ceramic item(s)? No Return Policy?
We package your item(s) as safe and secure as possible before it heads your way. However, we can't guarantee the same care will be taken during the shipping process. The same is true for return shipping. So PLEASE make sure to carefully review photos and be sure to LOVE your item before purchasing.
4. How do I fix cracked or chipped ceramics?
Use ceramic epoxy or super glue specifically designed for ceramics. For valuable or sentimental pieces, consult a professional restorer.
5. Is it safe to use ceramic cookware on the stove?
Only if it's marked as stove-safe or flameproof. Regular ceramic plates or bowls can crack under direct heat.
Silver Polishing FAQ
1. What’s the safest way to polish silver at home?
Use a silver polishing cloth or a non-abrasive silver polish. Gently rub in circular motions, then buff to a shine with a clean, dry cloth. If that doesn't work, please reach out to me, Emily, via our "Silver Polishing" page and I will be happy to assist you in polishing your item(s).
2. Why is it so expensive to have an item polished?
I understand the shock when receiving a polishing quote, however, please consider the time, labor, and cost of materials that are involved in the process of restoring your item(s). Some items require extra care and that is considered when reviewing your item(s).
3. How often should I polish my silver items?
Once or twice a year is enough for most pieces, but if you use or display them often, you may need to polish more frequently.
4. Why does my silver tarnish so quickly?
Exposure to air, moisture, sulfur, and even certain foods can speed up tarnishing. Store silver in anti-tarnish cloths or containers to help prevent it.
5. Can you polish my stainless steel item(s)?
No. Stainless steel and silver are vastly different even though they both offer a beautiful shine and silver color. I would suggest using a stainless steel cleaner and microfiber cloth to gently clean your item(s).
Jewelry Cleaning FAQ
1. What type of jewelry do you clean?
I have expertise in cleaning a wide array of jewelry pieces from engagement rings, to pearl necklaces, and valuable gem brooches. If you are unsure if I would polish your item(s) please send me a message through our "Jewelry Cleaning" page.
2. Is it possible to clean my diamond ring at home?
Yes! It is possible. You can try a mix of warm water and dish soap, and gently scrub with a soft toothbrush. Avoid harsh chemicals that might damage the setting. If that doesn't work consider sending to a professional as myself to shine it up for you.
3. Is ultrasonic cleaning safe for all jewelry?
No. Ultrasonic cleaners can damage soft stones like opals, pearls, and emeralds. Always check if your piece is safe for ultrasonic use before attempting at home.
4. Do you clean tarnished costume jewelry?
No. Costume jewelry is made up of different materials such as stainless steel which is a very different material from silver and gold. I'm not able to offer cleaning services for those items for that reason.
5. How often should I clean my everyday jewelry?
Clean every couple of weeks to prevent buildup of oils, dirt, and lotions. Store properly to minimize the need for deep cleaning.
6. Can I wear my engagement ring ALL the time?
No. It is not recommended to wear your engagement ring for every everyday activity. Your ring should be removed during swimming, sleeping, showering, gardening, exercising, and more! Any activity that could cause the stone to loosen from its' setting and damage the stone warrants putting your ring away in a safe place temporarily.
